 - Sponsored by CT ARES - Region 2

The First Place Entries were:

Basic “Go Box” (Voice) - KB1UQC

 Intermediate “Go Box” (VHF/UHF Voice & Data) – WZ1V

The Intermediate “Go Box” (VHF/UHF/HF Voice and Data): W1QK and N3BEB (**A Tie Decision**)

Advanced “Go Box” (Mesh): N1CLV

Wow! What an exciting turn-out and varieties on a theme! We had a dozen Go Boxes presented that included a simple plastic “orange” oversized ammo can, converted Brief Cases, a Pelican case for a Simplex Repeater (Airborne), Gator Boxes, and other cases of unknown origins. There was even an oversized GO BOX cleverly disguised as the Region 4 Mobile Communications Unit (MCU), in the parking lot. (LOL!)

Tough Judging

Some entries were more outstanding than others. Yet, for others, there were some really close decisions.
The fact that each person created his own Go Box made him a “winner”. No matter how his entry fared in the competition, each person now has a Go Box for those “Grab ‘n Go” moments for Fun operating or ARES deployments. And that was the whole point of the competition.

An “A” for effort went to a Backpack frame mounted radio (N3BEB who had 2 entries), and a GO BOX used for portable HF Digital communications (KA1MM). Unfortunately, these entries did not meet the power requirement criteria and had to be disqualified.
